Lanzarote
- where is it?
Lanzarote is
the most easterly of the Canary Islands and
lies in the Atlantic Ocean some 100km (60 miles)
from the coast of Africa and 1,000km south of
the Spanish mainland. It takes about 4 hours
to fly to the Canary Islands from the UK. Playa
Blanca at the southern end of the island, looks
across the ocean to Fuerteventura which is only
a 20 minutes ferry ride away.

Playa Blanca
Playa Blanca
has been called the St Tropez of the Canary
Islands. Once a small fishing village it has
grown substantially in recent years, yet retaining
it's natural beauty. It has a fantastic promenade
which at night really comes to life, with many
fine international restaurants. 2004 saw the
opening of the new Marina Rubicon. Here you
will find the boats of the rich and famous.

Places to visit
The island
has many attractions but if you only visit one
place it has to be the National Park of Timanfaya.
The live volcano is amazing. The heat only
a metre underground is so hot it instantly burns
hay, and water dropped down a hole spurts back
up as steam. The restaurant is also great value.
They cook all the food on a grill heated by
the volcano! Other places to visit include the
view at Mirador del Río, Jameos
del Agua caves, César Manrique
Foundation, The Cactus Garden & El
Golfo green lagoon.
